Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.) held a press conference on Tuesday at the Food Science Building on Cook Campus to advocate for legislation on modernizing food labels. Pallone and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) introduced the bill to the U.S. Congress, named the Food Labeling Modernization Act , in April. If passed, the act would improve labels on food packaging to make them easier for consumers to understand.

Last month, the New Brunswick City Council voted on an increase in metered parking prices that will go into effect on July 1. The current price for street-metered parking is $1.50 for the first 2 hours and then $2 for the 3rd hour. The price then goes up $1 for each subsequent hour. The council voted to pass ordinance 052302, which raises the price to park on New Brunswick streets to $2 for the first 2 hours and then $1 more for every subsequent hour.

Yesterday, the Route 18 Southbound local lanes in New Brunswick were unexpectedly closed throughout the day. The closure of the Route 18 lanes blocked access to the New Street and Paul Robeson Road exit ramps that four Rutgers bus routes use to reach the Cook and Douglass campuses. To accommodate for the lane closures ahead, the REXB and REXL routes exited Route 18 through the George Street ramp and traveled through downtown New Brunswick to reach the Douglass and Cook campuses.

On Thursday night, the Rutgers Board of Governors held an hour-long open hearing to gain input regarding the financial cost of attending the University. The meeting was held in person at the Rutgers Student Center on the College Avenue campus and live-streamed on Zoom. Less than 50 people attended the meeting, and 15 individuals provided comments to the Board.
