Given he was 10 places back on the grid for both the sprint and the Sunday race, Pecco Bagnaia may well soothe himself by taking just a 15-point hit relative to title rival Marc Marquez in the Qatar Grand Prix. But it should be difficult to see it that way - and Marquez's comments after the weekend, a weekend he repeatedly described as "the most important so far", show why.

Fabio Di Giannantonio has described Jorge Martin's Qatar Grand Prix crash as "the worst scene of my life", having inadvertently hit Martin with his bike through a fast section of the Lusail track. Recovering from an early incident with Alex Marquez, Di Giannantonio was lining up a move on Martin when the Aprilia rider, returning from a long injury absence, went down on the outside kerb between the fast right-handers Turn 12 and Turn 13.

Maverick Vinales and the Tech3 KTM MotoGP team have been stripped of their shock Qatar Grand Prix podium after a post-race investigation into a minimal tyre pressure breach. Vinales had mounted a surprise challenge for victory during the race and, though he had no answer for Ducati rider Marc Marquez's late-race pace, he preserved the tyres well enough to finish second on the road - a result beyond his and KTM's wildest expectations coming into the day.
