Ed Szczepanski-Imagn Images Mets’ starter Griffin Canning has been scratched from his Wednesday start against the Twins due to an undisclosed illness. New York has not yet announced a replacement starter. Justin Hagenman is the likeliest option to replace Canning, as he is both on the 40-man roster and would be on regular rest. The right-handed has posted a 6.97 ERA in 10 1⁄3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse this season.

Jesse Johnson-Imagn Images The Mets began their series with the Twins with a 5-1 victory to improve to 11-5 on the season. Like in their Sunday win against the Athletics, the offense was quiet in the first half of the game, mustering just three hits and one run over the first five frames (including a run-scoring hit by Pete Alonso). The offense awoke after Joe Ryan was lifted from the game, scoring two in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Brad Penner-Imagn Images Among the many reasons Mets fans were excited for the 2025 MLB season, watching Juan Soto suit up for the team day in and day out is easily at or near the top. Soto, fresh off signing the largest contract in major league history, came over with high expectations as a generational talent who would transform the perception of the franchise for years to come. We are now just about two weeks into the Soto era, and Soto has had a solid start to the season.

Orlando Ramirez-Imagn Images The Mets could be getting two of their regulars back in the lineup before long. Before today’s game, Carlos Mendoza revealed that Francisco Alvarez is slated to begin a rehab assignment tomorrow in Port St. Lucie, with Jeff McNeil traveling to Florida and starting one later this week. Neither player has appeared in a regular season game so far this season. The goal for McNeil (and, presumably, Alvarez as well) is a return before the end of April.

Brad Penner-Imagn Images On a wet and cold night in Flushing, the Mets blanked the Marlins 2-0. The Mets got their first run on a Juan Soto run-scoring double, and Tyrone Taylor added an insurance run in the eighth with a run-scoring single. Kodai Senga pitched five shutout frames, and the bullpen contributed four shutout innings. Ryne Stanek earned his first save as a Met.

I appreciate the Mets letting Philadelphia get closer just to beat them in the end. Real false hope hours, expertly done.

Francisco Lindor with leadoff homers in back-to-back games as Gary Cohen is talking about how only two Mets have ever done that. The Gare jinx is much appreciated when it happens for good things!
