India, May 9 -- PUNE The irrigation (water resources) department has raised concerns over the ongoing Riverfront Development (RFD) project along the Mula-Mutha river undertaken by Pune- and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations, asking both corporations to exercise caution while executing works related to the project so as not to reduce the cross-section of the river and not violate the conditions mentioned in the no-objection certificate (NOC) for the project, officials said.

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has initiated action against two premium housing societies in Bhugaon and Bhukum for allegedly violating environmental laws and polluting the Ramnadi river, officials said. These housing societies are allegedly releasing untreated sewage water into the Ramnadi river causing outrage among the residents of Bhugaon and Bhukum as well as environmental activists who have complained to the MPCB and local gram panchayats.

India, May 8 -- In a bid to plug the deficiency in specialist doctors in civic hospitals, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in collaboration with Dr D Y Patil Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday started free, specialised medical services at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Yerawada. Beginning Thursday, specialised healthcare services in medicine, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, paediatrics, gynaecology and ear-nose-throat (ENT) will be available at the hospital, officials said.
