Princesses' party; Vincennes State Historic Sites hosts Princess Academy

The annual Princess Academy was held Feb. 22, hosted by the Vincennes State Historic Sites. During the day, little girls ages 4 to 9 were able to dress up as princesses and participate in princess activities. Some of the activities include dancing, where Janice Barniak, executive director at Visit Vincennes/Knox County, led the girls in a body-positive dance activity. Barniak has volunteered with the Princess Academy for two years and said the day is always enjoyable.

VINCENNES — As the new year unfolds, the weather has dropped into an arctic blast and can be hard for some to find shelter. Organizations across the city are opening their doors to help provide those in need a break from the wind and freezing temperatures. Indiana 211 currently has three organizations listed for Knox County, all available in Vincennes.
United Way to offer tax assistance

United Way of Knox County has announced the annual Volunteers in Tax Assistance free tax service will return to Knox County Public Library and Bicknell-Vigo Township Library in the month of February. According to United Way Executive Director Mark Hill, people can utilize the service by picking up a packet from either location and completing it to the best of their ability.
SKSC approves bus bid

The South Knox School Corporation board of trustees accepted a bid for the sale of a bus, Tuesday. The $7,000 bid was made by DeLisle Farms LLC. Trustees also approved the board’s 2025 officers, including Eric Carter, president; Jesse Watjen, vice president; Alicia Houchin, secretary; Tammy Asdell, treasurer; Alicia Houchin, legislative liaison; Jeff Cochren, Twin Rivers Vocational Board of Directors; and Eric Carter, Knox County Special Education Cooperative Board.
NKSC reorganizes trustees

The North Knox School Corporation reorganized their board of trustees, Monday. Elaine Pepmeier was named president, Michael McKinley, vice president, and Donnie Gilmore, secretary. The proposed Neola Policies were read for the second time and approved. The NKSC Board of Finance approved resolutions to transfer money from the Education to Operations Fund, as well as the transfer of funds within line accounts for the end of year.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. — The Lawrenceville City Council held several discussions during their January meeting Thursday night, including the ongoing discussion of golft carts and city wide clean up. In new business, Mayor David Courtney led a discussion on how the council complies with the Illinois Open Meetings Act, reviewing the act and explaining how the council complies with it, as well as how to address the city council and the city’s investments.
Wheatland Town Council approves payments

WHEATLAND — The Wheatland Town Council met virtually due to weather and road conditions Monday evening. During the virtual meeting, council members approved a payment of $130,641.50 to Kiefer Brothers for an ongoing project in town. Council members also approved matching funds for the Community Crossings Matching Grant, which would be used towards improvements to 2nd Street and Main Street in the amount of $11,500. The next Wheatland Town Council meeting will be Monday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m.
Bicknell City Council passes ordinances during special meeting

BICKNELL — The Bicknell City Council passed two ordinances during a special meeting held Monday. The first ordinance approved transferred and made appropriations for the 2024 budget for certain city departments to keep up with increased costs, which is in accordance with advice from the Indiana State Board of Accounts. The second ordinance approved authorized payment for the water used at the splash pad at Southside Park. The next Bicknell City Council meeting will be held Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
