Latham & Watkins has boosted its antitrust and competition bench in Washington DC with the hire of a former deputy assistant attorney general. Andrew Forman has joined the firm’s litigation and trial practice after just under three years in the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he advised on merger and conduct investigations and litigations, and contributed to antitrust policy programmes.

Weil Gotshal & Manges is guiding private equity firm Advent International's takeover of FTSE 250 industrial group Spectris, repped by Slaughter and May. The deal gives the group an enterprise value of £4.4bn including debt and marks one of the largest recent takeovers of a London-listed business. The Weil team guiding Advent is led by private equity partner Jonathan Wood, co-head of the firm's London office.

Shoosmiths has reported record financial results for the 2024/25 financial year, growing profit per equity partner by 30% to exceed £1m for the first time against a 5% rise in revenue. The 650-lawyer firm's PEP hit £1.01m as turnover rose to £217.2m, marking a decade of continuous growth. Meanwhile the firm's net profit growth accelerated from 5% in 2023/24 to 16% last year, reaching £76.6m.

Browne Jacobson has rung in this year’s UK financial reporting season, announcing it grew turnover by 16% in the year to 30 April to a record high of £137m. The results mark the fourth consecutive year of double-digit growth for the UK top 50 firm, which has added nearly £90m to its topline since 2014, when it reported turnover of £50m. The 580-lawyer firm noted it had made 13 lateral partner hires over the course of the year – the most it has made in a single year to date.
