A judge is set to reexamine the brothers’ sentence for the 1989 killing of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. If the judge rules in favor of reducing their life sentences — which were handed down in 1996 —the men, now 57 and 54, could immediately become eligible for parole under California law. After the killings, the brothers initially told police they had returned from a festival to find their parents dead in the living room and claimed the shootings were related to the mafia.
