    Voters are worried about the high price of food and consumer goods and many think tariffs will hurt the U.S. economy, at least in the short term, according to a new Quinnipiac University national poll released this week. The poll included 1,407 self-identified registered voters, surveyed between April 3-7, polling officials said. President Donald Trump on Wednesday rolled back some of his planned tariffs to 10 percent for many countries except China, delaying higher tariffs for 90 days.

    A highway safety bill establishing more stringent penalties for operating a motor vehicle in excess of 100 miles per hour advanced out of the Judiciary Committee on Tuesday with bipartisan support. House Bill 7260, “An Act Concerning Excessive Reckless Driving,” would create a new category of traffic offense limited to people driving over 100 mph, which would be tied to increased fines and an ability for a police officer to tow and impound a vehicle for 48 hours with a prior conviction.

    A bill that would allow law enforcement to confiscate driver’s licenses or vehicles used in so-called “street takeovers” advanced out of the Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. Senate Bill 1284, “An Act Concerning the Illegal Use of Certain Vehicles and Street Takeovers,” also authorizes municipalities to adopt ordinances related to street takeovers and to destroy seized vehicles after 30 days.
