    Live music will return to downtown Hickory this summer and fall. The city of Hickory's Sails Original Music Series will bring free concerts under The Sails on Union Square. Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Friday evenings in May, June and September. One concert will be held in a different venue. The concert will be at the Samuel William Davis Sr. Multipurpose Field in Taft Broome Park on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m., in conjunction with the city's Festival on the Field event.

    A new hotel is planned in MorgantonΒ off Interstate 40 at exit 105. The hotel is expected to be complete by 2027. MRI Hotels plans to build a Home2 Suites by Hilton behind LongHorn Steakhouse in Morganton, according to Sid Maheshwari with MRI Hotels. Maheshwari said he expects to have the building design complete this year, and hopes to file for construction permits by the end of the year. Once started, construction is expected to take about 15 months, he said.
