Give Us Back Our Library Funding: The feds cut funding for Washington State libraries in prisons, in rural areas and on tribal lands. According to The Seattle Times, an April 1 memo from the Institute of Museum and Library Services terminated a $3.9 million grant they count on. Washington State Librarian Sara Jones says it will be difficult to run a state library that’s “anything close to what people recognize.” Not to get all Reading Rainbow on you, but Chaka Khan said it best.

The word “nuclear” conjures two images: A family and a mushroom cloud. Or for some, two trumpeting columns coughing clouds over Springfield, Homer Simpson unaware of the glowing green rod that’s slipped into his jumpsuit. It does not conjure whatever the hell I was looking at in the basement of the Aerospace & Engineering Research Building at University of Washington: A Frankenstein’s Monster of telescope, cannon, and submarine.

The Seattle Police Department says itâs arrested a 39-year-old man accused of violently attacking a transgender person in the University District last night. Police say the victim called 911 around 6pm to report that a group of men using anti-trans slurs had attacked them on the 4700 Block of University Way Northeast. According to arrest records, the victim had a swollen eye, broken teeth, scraped hands, and pain in the abdomen.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained 25-year-old activist farmworker Alfredo “Lelo” Juarez Zeferino Tuesday morning while he was driving his partner to work at a tulip bulb farm in Mount Vernon. At 7:23 am, Zeferino called Rosalinda Guillen, a long-time organizer and founder of Community to Community (C2C).
