Seattle City Council Debates Ugly Street Billboards: Our business-friendly mayor and council want to blight Seattle streets with around 80 eight-foot-tall digital advertising kiosks scattered around dense parts of Ballard, the University District, and SoDo. They think these billboards, which doesn't do anything your phone can't, will be good sources of passive income. Stop making us live a life where we are constantly advertised to. If you want to improve our streets, pedestrianize them.

Last Friday, the FBI arrested Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, claiming that she helped a migrant avoid arrest from federal immigration authorities. While highly irregular, according to law professionals, there is precedent for this arrest—pretty much the same situation happened in 2019 during the first Trump administration. A Massachusetts judge ushered a defendant out of a courtroom where Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers laid in wait, ready to do some arresting.

Vancouver Carnage: Near the end of the Lapu Lapu Festival organized by the Filipino community in Vancouver, British Columbia, a black Audi SUV plowed into the crowd. The driver of the car killed 11 people whose ages ranged from 5 to 65. The driver tried to escape, but was restrained by the crowd.

Pope Francis Is Dead: Pope Francis, who was the first Latin American pontiff, is dead at 88. Francis moved the Catholic Church progressively—or, at least progressively for the Catholics. He believed in climate change, he made the church a somewhat more welcoming place for LGBTQ people, he opposed the death penalty, he condemned both the war in Gaza and Ukraine. Poetically, Francis died the morning after Easter. Tragically, one of the last people he met with before his death Vice President JD Vance.
