In this study, we found that the number of olfactory-related genes identified in L. entomophila (26), L. decolor (47), and L. yangi (34) by transcriptome data alone is significantly less than those of L. bostrychophila (94) and L. tricolor (118) analyzed by genome data. This finding demonstrates the advantages of genome-wide approaches over transcriptome-based methods in understanding olfactory systems of booklice. Among them, the difference in the number of ORs and IRs is the most pronounced.
