    Following a 1-1/2-hour delay for lightning and rain from a thunderstorm, the Floyd Central Lady Highlanders dominated the girls' track sectional last Tuesday night with a 76-point win over runner-up Corydon Central. Several sectional records fell during the meet despite the wait for Mother Nature to dry up the sky. Overall, it was a strong night for the athletes who were all bidding for a spot to this week’s Evansville Central regional.

    It was Rivalry Day at the North Harrison baseball field last Monday as the Cougars and Corydon Central Panthers baseball teams met in a make-up game, and it proved to be the usual all-out battle between the two schools.     That’s what Floyd Central girls' softball coach Sean Payne said of his team’s win last Wednesday against visiting Columbus East in an important Hoosier Hills Conference game on a night celebrating Senior Night and Teacher Appreciation Night. “It clinches a share, but we’re not here to share,” Payne said of the conference championship. Lola Watkins led off the Lady Olympans with a double to start the game and went to second when Baleigh Fish grounded out.

    “It’s a shame it wasn’t over in three.”That’s what North Harrison baseball coach Dalton Drexler said after his Cougars took a shellacking at the hands of the Silver Creek Dragons last Thursday afternoon in a game that had to be moved to the Sellersburg turf site after rain washed out the North Harrison field. For those first three innings, the two teams were nose to nose, then the Dragons unleashed their heavy artillery in a 15-3 win.
