Nature Conservation Margaret River Region has scored a massive $770,000 grant to help its work protecting its namesake waterway. The four-year allocation from the Ian Potter Foundation would drive better understanding as well as health of the Margaret River, the not-for-profit group said. The new Protect Wooditjup Bilya project included funding for research, on-ground work like fencing and weed control, and community engagement through events and accessible information.

The developers of a proposed resort at Gnarabup are still optimistic about starting work this year as WA’s Environmental Protection Authority prepares to issue a ruling on the project. The Saracen Property Group’s contentious five-star resort and de facto village plan for Gnarabup which includes a discreet new commercial hub for the coastal settlement has concluded environmental reviews and awaits the umpire’s ruling on whether it can proceed.
