    O’FALLON, Mo. — Capturing the district golf championship is getting to be old hat for Liberty junior Cole Packingham. He fired a 6-under-par 65 Friday to win medalist honors by five strokes in the Class 5 District 2 boys golf tournament at The Falls Golf Club. He was 1-under 35 on the front nine before burning up the back nine with a 5-under 30. He recorded seven birdies. That made back-to-back district crowns for Packingham.

    Junior Zane Mathys came through for his older brother Aaron to help Marquette win the MAHS Handicap High School Bowling State Tournament. The brothers were together two years ago when Marquette finished second. Aaron graduated. Last year, Marquette didn’t have enough boys to come out to make a team, so Mathys bowled for Lafayette. The Lancers won state.

Earlier, he became the first Mustang ever to top 1,000 kills. Setter Alex Danyluck recently became the first player in program history to record 2,000 assists in a career. Danyluck also owns the program's career record for aces at 185.

LOUIS (AP) — Mets left fielder Jesse Winker will fly back to New York instead of traveling with the team to Arizona after leaving the first game of a doubleheader at St. Louis on Sunday with right side discomfort. Winker had an MRI after the game, but manager Carlos Mendoza said after the Mets lost the nightcap 5-4 that more imaging was needed and a stint on the injured list was likely.
