1 Introduction Ocean mesoscale eddies play an important role in the transport and mixing of oceanic tracers, such as heat, carbon, and nutrients. Tracer mixing by mesoscale eddies impacts the large-scale ocean circulation (Hallberg & Gnanadesikan, 2006; Marshall & Radko, 2003, 2006; Wolfe & Cessi, 2010) and biogeochemical environment (Gnanadesikan et al., 2015; McGillicuddy Jr et al., 2003; Steinberg et al., 2019).
