LAPEER — The Lapeer County Suicide Prevention Network (LCSPN) held its 5th Annual Into the Light suicide awareness event on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Rowden Park in Lapeer. Approximately 300 people participated in a walk around the trail at the park to promote suicide awareness.

Edward “Ed” May, founder of Albar Industries located in Lapeer, passed away Sept. 18 at age 83. May was an active member of Lapeer County’s economic development community and quietly contributed to numerous charities and nonprofit organizations in and around Lapeer. Ed May, a native of Pittsburg and veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve made his way to the Motor City in 1963.

LAPEER – Fired Chatfield School teacher Keith Corbett appeared in person in 71A District Court in Lapeer before Judge Laura Cheger Barnard on Friday as his attorneys requested the court to set a preliminary examination. Judge Barnard granted the request, and Corbett will next appear in court for the preliminary examination on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.Corbett remains held on a $500,000 cash surety bond at the Lapeer County Jail.
