Warriors edge Cougars

PONTOTOC- The Pontotoc Warriors (17-8) hosted the South Pontotoc Cougars (9-12) last Saturday night in a hard-fought rivalry matchup. A three-run home run from Corbyn Clayton in the bottom of the sixth would be the deciding factor as the Warriors held on for a 7-4 victory. Miller Finn took the mound for the Warriors, striking out the first Cougar batter of the night before giving up two walks.
Lady Warriors knock off Corinth

PONTOTOC- After falling to the Corinth Lady Warriors 7-1 last Tuesday, the Lady Warriors hosted game two of the Region 1-5A matchup last Thursday night. PHS came away with an 11-7 win, due largely to an early eight-run surge in the bottom of the 1st inning. Corinth took advantage of four hits to bring in three runs to kick off the night, but the Lady Warriors quickly answered.
Cougars fall to Toppers

HOUSTON- The South Pontotoc Cougars traveled to Houston on Saturday, coming up short against the Toppers in a 7-3 contest. Rob Hancock took the mound for the Toppers, hitting Cruze Lackey with the first pitch of the afternoon before walking Isaiah Stuto and Eli Faulkner to load the bases. Jackson Harmon grounded into a fielder’s choice that brought Lackey home for the first run of the day. Hancock gave up another walk to Sheff White before earning his first strikeout.

Strong second half lifts Lady Toppers over North

ECRU- The North Pontotoc Lady Vikings hosted Houston Friday night, with the Lady Toppers pulling out a 74-36 win. Houston came out of the gate strong, running up a 6-0 lead before North’s Tasia Scott got the Lady Vikings on the board with the first 3-pointer of the night midway through the first. Ava Anderson knocked down two at the foul line to kept the Lady Vikings within reach, as Houston pulled ahead 12-5.
Amory tops Cougars

SPRINGVILLE- The Cougars hosted the Amory Panthers on the pitch last Thursday night, with the Panthers notching a decisive 7-0 win. The Panthers put up their first goal just six minutes into the game. South’s Zachary Moore attempted a penalty kick seven minutes later that narrowly sailed over the crossbar. Four county runners finish in Top 10 at Mooreville Invitational

MOOREVILLE- All three schools showed up in Mooreville this past Saturday for the Mooreville Invitational. As always, the invitational drew a large batch of runners, with nearly 50 schools registering to attend. The rain mostly held, forcing runners on a dry but muddy course. Just shy of 200 runners competed in the high school boys’ 4A-7A race, with Pontotoc’s Samuel Aguilar taking second place with a time of 18:00.72 while Pontotoc’s Andrew Chrestman finished 9th with a time of 18:44.25.
Lafayette takes division win over Lady Warriors

PONTOTOC- The Lady Warriors hosted Lafayette last Tuesday night for their third division matchup of the season. After dropping set one, 25-12, the Lady Warriors battled back to take set two 25-22. Set three was a close matchup as the Lady Warriors fought back from a five-point deficit to take a 20-18 lead, before ultimately knotting up at 25 all before Lafayette pulled out a 28-26 win.
Vikings battle rain in loss to Corinth

CORINTH- The Vikings traveled to Corinth (2-1) this past Friday night, facing off against the Warriors in the pouring rain. Originally slated as their homecoming game, the uncooperative weather forced Corinth to cancel their scheduled homecoming activities, but they still managed to slip and slide their way to a 33-10 victory, serving the Vikings (2-1) their first loss of the season.
