MURRAY— The Calloway County Lakers rolled past McCracken County at Jeffrey Gymnasium on Monday night, beating the Mustangs 66-51. MURRAY— The boys basketball game between the Calloway County Lakers and Marshall County on Tuesday evening at Jeffrey Gymnasium was billed as a matchup between two of the top teams in the state. Calloway came into the game with a 15-1 record. Marshall was 15-0. The Massey Ratings predicted a 61-60 Calloway victory. So everyone expected a tight, hotly contested game. But that is not what they saw. Marshall County dominated the action, cruising to a 79-52 victory.

BOWLING GREEN — Calloway County’s girls and boys basketball teams both earned strong wins in Saturday’s highly-competitive German American Bank Classic at Bowling Green High School. The Lady Lakers had to take the hard road, rebounding from a large early deficit to down traditional Kentucky powerhouse Mercy Academy (Louisville) by a 57-42 final score. Then, the Calloway boys engaged Bowling Green-area stalwart Greenwood in a tight battle that went to the Lakers, .

MURRAY — The Calloway County Lady Lakers rolled past Hopkinsville 63-32 on Saturday afternoon at Murray State’s CFSB Center in The Murray Bank Hardwood Classic. The Lady Lakers (7-2) rolled to a 10-0 lead, and, by halftime, they were up 37-15. Hopkinsville (4-4) was never able to close the gap. “We told them that we wanted to take that momentum and never give it up,” Calloway Head Coach Kirsten Collins said.

MURRAY — Calloway County beat highly-regarded Peoria (Ill.) Richwoods, 69-54, Saturday night in The Murray Bank Hardwood Classic at Murray State’s CFSB Center. The game did not start well for Calloway (9-0), though. Richwoods (5-5 against a very difficult schedule) scored the first 10 points of the game, prompting Lakers Head Coach Brad Cleaver to call a timeout. “I loved on them a little bit, and gave them some strong encouragement,” Cleaver said with a laugh. “You know I’m being facetious, right?
