Cattle Ring head steward James Strachan, who has been volunteering at the event since 1995, held his last show on Thursday. He took over as senior cattle steward from William Wrinch in 2019, who filled the voluntary post for an impressive 13 years before standing down. However, Mr Strachan says he is now aiming to focus his time over the bank holiday on the family business, a farm and glamping zone in Rendham near Saxmundham.

On Friday, drivers travelling from Essex to Ipswich reported delays of up to three hours during bank holiday traffic despite there being no major road collision incidents reported. Meanwhile, heavy delays were also seen near Woodbridge on Monday after two cars collided, causing the road to be blocked in both directions. Mark Ling, the director of I.C.E Transport, blames capacity and lack of investment for what he describes as "normalised constant delays" on the road.

The Suffolk Show is quite unique, and it's a quintessential reflection of what the county means to different people. But for a London-born invasive species like myself, knowing the best things to do at the show doesn't come naturally to me. So, as the snack lover I am, I started off with the food hall. We tried samples offered by Munchy Seeds of Leiston and jam and mustard being offered by Monty's Mustard from Norfolk, and they were delicious.
