LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Happy Mother's Day!Sunday is a transition day over the area. We will start off on the drier side, and it'll start out being a rather pleasant morning with some sunshine. However, as we head through the rest of the afternoon, you will notice some clouds on the increase. What We're Tracking (WSET)These shouldn't produce anything other than maybe a few sprinkles as we head through the daylight hours of Sunday, but you will notice the extra clouds.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — We're just weeks away from the start of hurricane season. And the experts at the National Hurricane Center are already preparing. "The Activity largely is going to be determined by how warm the waters are, what the overall wind patterns are going to look like. How the individual waves move across the basin," said Mike Brennan, the director of the NHC. Here in the mountains, our biggest concern is flooding. LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — Last weekend, I got the chance to ride in the Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City. Each year, when I would come back, our good friend Mark Spain would ask me how it went. After last year's ride, I suggested he join me when it came around this year. Sadly, we lost Mark to pancreatic cancer this past December.

"We're going beyond what the SOLs tell us to do, and we're really pushing these kids and challenging these kids" said Karl Loos, the head of history for middle schools with Lynchburg City Schools.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) — While Metallica rocks Lane Stadium this evening, something else may very well be shaking on Tech's campus. Dr. Martin Chapman, a seismologist at Virginia Tech, says the vibration of the fans jumping around Lane Stadium travels down through the foundation of the stadium and into the ground is what produces the shaking on the seismogram at the start of each Hokie home game.
