During a lightly attended subcommittee meeting in February, the administration announced a major change to the high school class schedule. The new schedule will have a four-day rotation and it will double the half-hour “lunch and learn” period.

On a mercifully warm spring day in 1997, my classmates and I found ourselves standing on a wharf at Naval Air Station Pensacola looking at a damage control simulator. The simulator was basically a large metal shipping container with a ship’s compartment inside it, only the compartment looked like it had been hit by torpedoes. It was filled waist high with water, and more was pouring in from gashes, holes and broken pipes all over the place.
