Daniel Walker admitted it took him some time to transition from basketball to baseball season, which is to be expected. The day after the Danville senior’s basketball season ended in the opening round of the state tournament, he was taking hacks in the batting cage for the Ironmen baseball team. After some initial struggles at the plate, Walker has been an integral part of the 10-2 Ironmen, who are looking for another deep postseason run after reaching the PIAA semifinals last spring.

Midd-West senior Ben Hummel has a career in sports media in mind, but he has a little unfinished business to take care of this spring before finding out what his true calling is, he said. Hummel missed a medal at the PIAA Track & Field Championships by less than a second in the 800 meters last May. Since then, he finished fifth at states in cross-country and then was seventh at the indoor state track championships earlier this month at Penn State in the 800 meters.
