    I was raised Catholic. I became an atheist at eighteen and then had a period of devoutness that spanned my mid-twenties to my early thirties. I lost faith again in a much bigger and more substantial way when my son was born. I turned away from religion and didn’t look back. Except when I did. My work is imbued with Catholic imagery and symbolism. My characters are, for the most part, practicing Catholics or at least culturally Catholic.

Participation for ,many counts was again up from pre-pandemic participation. Species numbers were average to above average and although some compilers mentioned the scarcity of some of the usually more common birds, other species were found in record high numbers, especially in Pennsylvania.

I’d seen Jason Molina and his band about nine or ten times before that back in New York (I’d also traveled to Philadelphia to see them), and now I was living in Oxford, Mississippi, and venturing to see Molina and Co. tour in support of their latest album, Josephine. Andrew also lived near Oxford, and we hit it off as Molina fans.

Participation was generally up from pre-pandemic counts. Species numbers were about average on most counts, but numerous compilers again mentioned the scarcity of some of the usually more common birds.
