Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed progress announced last week by the Minister for Infrastructure on the development of the Newry Southern Relief Road scheme. The scheme plans to build a road linking the A1/N1 Belfast to Dublin corridor and the A2 Warrenpoint Road to facilitate traffic from Warrenpoint Port bypassing Newry City Centre.

SINGAPORE: Shigeru Ishiba, who became Japan’s new prime minister on Tuesday (Oct 1), surprised many with his proposal of an Asian NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in a commentary penned for the Hudson Institute in September. In his words, "Ukraine today is Asia tomorrow". Mr Ishiba drew parallels between the actions of China to those of Russia, as well as between Taiwan and Ukraine.

McClean’s steady round included just one bogey (on the 10th) and three birdies, with two on the difficult back nine, which ensured he finished on 11-under – two shots clear of Nolan.

Purcell was projected to jump from 36th to 24th in the Road to Mallorca Rankings after concluding his first round. However, the 26-year-old will need to be in an even better position tomorrow as a top-three finish at this tournament will allow him to break into the top 20 to secure a DP World Tour card for next season.
