New £1.9bn Theme Park for Newry

An application for Planning Permission has been submitted to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for a 90 acre family theme park on a site alongside Newry Canal, just north of Carnbane Industrial Estate. The £1.9bn 'Canal Kingdom' will be the world's first canal themed amusement park and the largest theme park in Ireland.

Newry and Armagh MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed progress announced last week by the Minister for Infrastructure on the development of the Newry Southern Relief Road scheme. The scheme plans to build a road linking the A1/N1 Belfast to Dublin corridor and the A2 Warrenpoint Road to facilitate traffic from Warrenpoint Port bypassing Newry City Centre.

Slieve Gullion Councillor Pete Byrne (SDLP) has been elected Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's first citizen at the Council's AGM in Downpatrick tonight, 3 June. Deputy Chairperson Cllr David Lee-Surginor (Alliance) was also elected at the meeting.
