The nutbearer in question being The Batman director Matt Reeves, who’s been working for some time on a script for a sequel to his out-of-continuity—Gunn calls them Elseworlds, nodding to an old-school DC Comics designator—blockbuster. “We’re supposed to get a script in June,” Gunn, who gave this interview a few weeks ago, confirms. “I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it.

I would have done anything for him. But by the time we got to The Dictator he was pulling away from that whole style of work and he wanted to be more of a traditional movie star. And he was surrounding himself with more traditional show business people and getting advice from them, which I don’t think was good advice for the kind of rebel sensibility that Sacha had had up until that time. And so, for a variety of reasons, it started to kind of fragment and fracture and fall apart.

We’ve been hearing for a few years at this point about Chad Stahelski’s Highlander remake—usually in the context of what the John Wick franchise director would be doing that wasn’t the new John Wick movie that the studios are continually baying for. We really only knew two things about the movie, though: Stahelski was helming it, and his new immortal would be played by Henry Cavill.
