Wow! That was a long section title for this week’s Weekly Oddity, but it gets at the core tension that I want to discuss. Yesterday Anne Thompson, Editor at Large of IndieWire and one of the best film industry commentators, shared an article discussing how The Academy is cutting staff from their Archives and Library divisions as their Museum expands.

A while back I talked about the and how one of the things I love about discoveries like this is that they demonstrate how the infinite and the finite intersect in nature. In the case of the Einstein tile, researchers discovered a shape that can be laid out (aka tiled) on a plane without ever having the pattern of shapes repeat. That’s amazing right? What’s also amazing is that the intersections of these shapes create hexagons which do repeat.

It’s a literal unboxing this week as a box of Wyrd Science made it out of Brexit island and arrived here in Belgium. I’ve said this before but as someone with no training or hands on experience of graphic design before this mag, the wait between sending our printers several thousand pounds and opening a box up to see if i’ve made some terrible mistake is, let’s say, fraught. Thankfully, once again, we seem to be in the clear.
