INTRODUCTION International faculty are “an important part of internationalization of higher education” (Huang et al., 2019, p. 1). They are considered a driving force behind internationalization, and the number of international faculty in universities are often used by global rankings and policy makers as a key measure of internationalization (Altbach & Yudkevich, 2017).
