In sulfidic and metallic mine tailings, acid mine drainage (AMD) is generated from the oxidation of sulfides during weathering processes, carrying a large amount of labile heavy metals (HMs) such as lead (Pb) (Lottermoser 2010). Various waste treatment technologies have been reported, including neutralization, adsorption, membrane separation, and phytoremediation (Akcil & Koldas, 2006; Pino et al., 2018; Huang et al., 2014).
