Two isoelectronic and isostructural W(0) and Re(I) complexes mer-W(CO)3(PNP) (1) and [mer-Re(CO)3(PNP)]Cl (2) (PNP = 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)acridine) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, infrared, electronic absorption and emission spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry.

Delayed mucosal healing and impaired intestinal epithelial barrier function have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC). Accordingly, restoration of epithelial barrier function as a means to reshape mucosal homeostasis represents an important strategy for use in the treatment of UC.
