1 INTRODUCTION Hyperuricemia (HUA) represents a metabolic disorder by dysregulation in purine metabolism, resulting in either excessive production or reduced excretion of uric acid, thereby leading to elevated blood uric acid levels.1 It is clinically defined as serum uric acid levels equal to or greater than 420 μmol/L in males and 360 μmol/L in females.2 Within normal ranges, blood uric acid levels exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and vasodilatory properties.
