    Vanderbilt professor Jonathan Metzl released his latest book, titled “What We’ve Become: Living and Dying in a Country of Arms,” on Jan. 30. The book analyzes American gun politics and explores the mental health crisis and conflicts over race as potential motivations for gun violence. Metzl, an expert on the intersection of gun violence, racial conflicts and public health, serves as the director of Vanderbilt’s Department of Medicine, Health and Society.

    Four of the nine construction projects in the Future VU campus-planning initiative have recently been completed. These projects include construction or renovation on  Owen Graduate School of Management, Nursing School, Divinity School, 6 Magnolia Circle and Kirkland Hall.  Kirkland Hall, initially projected to be complete by Oct. 1, 2023, was delayed for completion until the end of 2023 due to construction material delays.

    Vanderbilt Student Organizations, Leadership and Service announced on Dec. 8 that Marketplace will move to the GET app, effective Jan. 8. Student organization leaders were notified a week prior to the public announcement via an email from the Student Affairs Marketplace Team, who said the transfer will make purchasing membership dues and merchandise more convenient.

    Various Asian cultural organizations on campus organized events from Sept. 25 through Oct. 8 to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, which took place on Sept. 29. These celebrations, which featured mooncake tastings, performances, and lantern paintings, aimed to foster community and promote cross-cultural interaction among students.
