    At 5pm on Monday 10th March, around 50 people gathered outside the Oxford Union to protest Suella Braverman’s appearance at the Union. Braverman was set to speak at 5pm. Suella Braverman is a British politician and barrister who served as Home Secretary from September 2022 to October 2022, and again from October 2022 to November 2023. Braverman also served as chair of the European Research Group from 2017 to 2018 and Attorney General for England and Wales from 2020 to 2021.

    On Sunday 23rd February, Germans voted in the country’s 2025 federal elections to elect the country’s next chancellor and members of the German Bundestag, following the collapse of the incumbent chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government last November. Fears of a far-right ascent led by the Alternative fĂĽr Deutschland (AfD) party dominated the run-up to the election. The first results were released at 5pm (GMT) on Sunday.

    Christ Church has announced that it will be voting against the proposals of activist hedge fund Saba Capital, which has waged an investment battle against several UK investment trusts. Saba Capital, a US-based hedge fund, has launched attacks against 7 UK investment trusts, including Herald Investment Trust, a major backer of UK tech-driven businesses. Saba’s founder Boaz Weinstein dubbed the 7 trusts “the miserable seven” because of their poor investment performance over the past 3 years.

    The University of Oxford has rolled out a number of initiatives in support of the advancement of learning and the rebuilding of higher education in Gaza and the West Bank. One of these initiatives is the Palestine Crisis Scholarship Scheme, to support “students displaced by the humanitarian crisis” in the region. However, the scheme has been criticised by a member of Oxford Action for Palestine (OA4P), who worked on the scholarship, for its limited reach and delayed rollout.
