INTRODUCTION Self-regulated learning (SRL) and adaptive learning environments (ADLEs) are mutually reinforcing concepts in the domain of educational technology. Self-regulated learning refers to the process of individual self-regulation through which learners activate and sustain cognitions, behaviours and affects, which are systematically oriented towards the attainment of learning goals (Winne & Hadwin, 1998).
