One of the tasks I want to accomplish with Red River Roundup is to develop some official historical records. As I’ve written before, ever since an early age, I’ve been enamored with statistics. And I’ve always been a sucker for skilled running backs. They can come in all shapes and sizes. Bruising bulldozers. Shifty and speedy. Guys who dart through holes like a bullet, and guys who run through would-be tacklers like a freight train.

When most people think about Graham football, they think about the embarrassment of riches the Young County school has had at quarterback. I mentioned this before the 2024 season, but they’ve had only seven quarterbacks start just about every game since 2006. One (Case McCoy 2006-09) played at the University of Texas, while another (Tucker Horn 2016-17) had an impressive run at the D-III level. Ty Thompson just finished up an outstanding four-year career and is playing at the next level.

With Iowa Park filling its head football coach vacancy earlier this week, it’s looking like the area’s coaching changes at the 11-man level could be complete. It wouldn’t be out of the ordinary if something still happens in the next month. Late changes happen from time to time. But schools have made contractual commitments to their head football coaches by now. If another area change occurs, it’ll be because someone takes a new job or decides to change professions.

We took a road trip to San Antonio at the end of spring break. I’ve always preferred the leisurely drive down Highway 281 when visiting Central Texas. Sure, you have to slow down every 20-30 miles to go through a small town, but it beats the white-knuckle driving that is I-35. Plus it’s much more scenic and shorter mileage-wise.

There were zero area head football coach openings after Electra and City View chose their guys in the past few days. That didn’t last very long. On Friday afternoon, word broke that Michael Swenson had stepped down as Iowa Park’s athletic director/head football coach to be an assistant AD at Weatherford. It’s the fourth head football coach opening this offseason. All four have occurred at Wichita County schools. Memorial and Burkburnett are the only county schools who have kept their program leaders.

Everybody probably remembers Daimarqua Foster’s 580 yards against Decatur, but who had some of the other Wichita Falls area’s top single-game rushing performances? Wrote about and researched that topic here. https://t.co/sA75HUQESv https://t.co/ZZjt6S7jCH

Also looked at Graham’s past quarter century of football, which includes an impressive amount of district titles and a changed narrative. https://t.co/iDcuM0MWgC https://t.co/y1K6o5nVOn

Wrote a couple stories these past two days. Looked at Iowa Park’s big-time coaching hire and how the 2025 WF area’s coaching cycle compares to past offseasons. https://t.co/lIkgy68cxp https://t.co/0kHvrzKDFN
