The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the identity of a person found dead in a burning vehicle near Lake Arrowhead on April 26. He was identified as William Cordis Hardman, 63, of Odell.A press release from the DPS on Wednesday said Hardman was driving his 2007 Chevrolet pickup northwest on FM Road 2606 around a sharp left curve. He failed to control his speed and failed to negotiate the curve, the release said. The pickup went off the roadway to the right.

A missing Texas historical marker honoring entrepreneur John Hart Wilson has been found. The marker, originally placed at Wilson's former home, was removed and stored on private property. The Wichita County Historical Commission is seeking a new location for the marker, possibly at Wichita Clutch, a company Wilson founded. A mysteriously missing historical marker has been returned safely to its caretakers.

It took a jury of seven men and five women an hour and 10 minutes on Wednesday to find Adan Chavez guilty of murder in the death of Jorge Gonzales. Jurors then began deliberating Chavez's punishment on the first degree felony, which can be from five to 99 years or life in prison. Chavez, 25, was indicted for the Oct. 2, 2022, shooting of Gonzales, 23, in the parking lot of a Dollar Saver convenience store in the 700 block of Central Freeway, court documents show.

The memorial ceremony honors the Wichita Falls officers who have fallen in the line of duty in addition to those others who lost their lives across the country, police said. Wichita Falls has lost seven officers in the line of duty, police said. The first was recorded in 1927 and the last in 1989.
