(WOWK) – Thousands are without power as severe storms ravage the tri-state. According to Appalachian Power, an estimated 6,500 customers are without service in Southern West Virginia. More than 1,000 customers are without service in Cabell County. Kentucky Power estimates just more than 1,000 customers are without service in Eastern Kentucky. In Ohio, more than 1,000 people are without power in Meigs County according to AEP Ohio. More than 600 are without service in Jackson and Scioto Counties.

HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – The city of Huntington has passed its 2026 fiscal budget with changes made from Mayor Patrick Farrell’s original proposal. In an amendment passed, $50,000 was moved from jails to the Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter. The council voted 9-1 to approve the budget. The city council meeting lasted until after midnight, with residents speaking out in support and in opposition to the budget.

UPDATE: (11:05 a.m. Wednesday, March 12) – The Huntington Police Department and Huntington Fire Department have released a joint statement on a fatal fire that happened early Wednesday morning. According to HPD Chief Phil Watkins and HFD Chief Greg Fuller, the incident began when Cabell County 911 got a call shortly after 1 a.m. of a “disturbance and a structure fire.” They say while working to search the building and contain the fire, they found a deceased man.
