DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- May into the month of June marks peak tornado season in the Miami Valley. We have several key factors to thank for the uptick in tornado activity during those two months. We need enough warmth, shear, moisture, lift and of course instability. Let's go one by one and hone in on why each of these matters. Tornadoes don't typically form in December through February in Ohio, due to the fact it's too cold most of the time.

Cloudy days happen more than enough in Ohio, though some cities have more than others. There are a few major reasons why Ohio residents see numerous cloudy days. Reason number one is the placement of the jet stream during the colder months. The jet stream positions itself over the Midwest frequently during the cool season.

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Sunday night will be chilly with temperatures in the middle to upper 40s. The northern lights could be visible, at least faintly, a few hours after dark till 3 am. Highs will rise above 80 early next week as true summer temperatures arrive in the area. Increasing humidity and a boundary will lead to rain chances Wednesday into Thursday. Scattered showers Thursday will more than likely fire up in the afternoon. We should have another round of showers and storms Thursday.

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) -- Sunday morning starts out chilly, though, with lows in the middle to upper 40s!Highs will rise above 80 early next week as true summer temperatures arrive in the area. Increasing humidity and a boundary will lead to rain chances Wednesday into Thursday. Scattered showers Thursday will more likely fire up in the afternoon. We should have another round of showers and storms Thursday night into Friday morning. Next weekend looks mostly dry with near normal temperatures.
