    SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. – As the Happy Camp Complex winds down, an assessment is being done on the burn scar area. The U.S. Forest Service’s “burned area emergency response,” or BAER team, recently completed their assessment of the Happy Camp Complex in Siskiyou County. They’re job is to take a look at the vulnerability of the burned landscape to things like landslides from storm events. They also bring in specialists to determine other values at risk like animals, road infrastructure and fisheries.

    VIDEO MEDFORD, Ore. – Rogue Retreat’s ‘Redwood Inn’ is getting closer to completion. We’re hearing from Rogue Retreat about what we can expect to see at the facility soon. The Redwood Inn has a total of 48 units. The downstairs has 23 units, with 21 of those will be used for what Rogue Retreat calls a ‘discharge medical respite program’. It will be dedicated for those who don’t have a safe place to recover when they leave a hospital.

    The Medford city council passed a new ordinance last Thursday, making it possible for the city to charge people for reckless grass fires. City attorney Eric Mitton said there is already a state law that allows counties to prosecute for reckless burns. Under that law, people can only be charged if the fire causes property damage. However, Medford’s ordinance will also allow someone to be charged for any vegetation fire in public areas, whether it causes property damage or not.

    MEDFORD, Ore. – Local fire agencies want people to know despite fire danger levels lowering, it’s still fire season and to be careful when outside. As of this morning, ODF Southwest has lowered the fire danger level from ‘high’ to ‘moderate’. Widespread rain and more forecasted precipitation are the reason ODF decided to move down to moderate.

    CURRY COUNTY, Ore. – The Anvil Fire is wreaking havoc on a nearby fish hatchery, forcing ODFW to release thousands of fish. The fire, east of Port Orford, is about a mile away from the ‘Elk River Hatchery’ in Curry County. Roughly 265,000 ‘Elk River Chinook’ were released in the river, around a month earlier than normal. Another 140,000 ‘Chetco River Fall Chinook‘ were also let go early. Plus, about 60,000 ‘Umpqua River Fall Chinook‘ were transported by truck to acclimation pens in Winchester Bay.
