44-Year-Old Man Charged After Assault Involving Children in St. John’s

A 44-year-old man is facing several charges after an assault involving children in St. John’s. RNC officers responded to a home in the west end of the city just before 8:30 p.m. Friday. Two children were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, three counts of assault, and choking. Police say all parties were known to each other and there is no risk to public safety, and the investigation is still ongoing. He was held for court.

Canadian Country Music Hall of Famers Terri Clark and Paul Brandt are bringing their Homecoming Tour 2.0 to St. John’s this fall, following the success of last year’s acoustic tour. The duo will share the stage for an night of hits and storytelling, part of a 34-date cross-country run that kicks off October 17. The group was here last year in an event that quickly became a fan-favourite from attendees. The event takes place October 20-21st at Holy Heart Theatre.

John Hogan has been named the new leader of the NL Liberal Party, replacing Premier Andrew Furey. Hogan was chose to be Furey’s successor this afternoon during the Liberal Leadership Convention. Furey told the province in February that he was stepping down to spend more time with his family and his medical practice. It has been an honour to serve Newfoundland and Labrador as Premier and leader of the Liberal Party.

Police stopped the vehicle on Middle Road around 3:30 on Monday. The woman was arrested, and more than an ounce of cocaine was seized along with other items.

Copper Mine Near Ming’s Bight Poised to Expand

The company, which operates a copper mine on the Baie Verte Peninsula, is hoping to expand the operation. Firefly Metals Canada is proposing to expand its existing mine near Ming’s Bight to extract copper-rich critical minerals from the site. The project, which has been registered for environmental assessment, will include underground mining infrastructure, a processing plant, a tailing management facility, roads, transmission lines, storage and accommodations.

Spring is here and the RNC is issuing a reminder to young riders of the importance of adhering to off-road vehicle laws.
