    Armuchee senior Luke Lively was named a Region 7-1A Division I Co-Player of the Year and led a class of 15 local players to receive region honors, the region’s coaches announced Monday. Lively excelled as a two-way player for the Indians as they reached the fourth consecutive year. At the plate, he hit .460 with a .547 on-base percentage in region games, walking 2.5-times more than he struck out. His average jumped to .522 with runners in scoring position. On the mound, Lively was just as effective.

    Model sophomore AJ Adams and Rome senior Miya Winston each won events during the first day of the Class 1A Division I and Class 5A state championship track and field meets Friday at Barron Stadium, and it wasn’t close. Adams won the Class 1A Division I boys shot put with a throw of 57 feet, 1 inch, a mark almost five feet better than second place. “As soon as it left my shoulder, I knew it was the one,” Adams said.
