Ever since that fateful day in November 2022 when OpenAI released ChatGPT, hardly a week has gone by in which AI hasn’t been in the news. Much of this coverage concerns fears of AI-perpetuated labor-market disruption and mass unemployment. A look at the theory underpinning these fears can help us understand what may happen as AI’s reach increases. More importantly, it can help us understand AI’s threat to education and what colleges can do to turn this threat into an opportunity.

In 2023, the British horror film “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” took the internet by storm. Most reactions were of revulsion, as while people recognized that the film was legally permissible, they found the choice to be in poor taste. After all, there are infinite options to choose for the big bad of your low-budget slasher. Why choose a beloved children’s character? Despite the outcry, or perhaps because of it, “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” pulled in a solid $7.7 million around the world.

Every Sunday, the Duke Chapel erupts with song and joy during Sunday morning services. While every member of the Chapel Community contributes, one group plays an instrumental role: The Duke Chapel choir. At 112 years old, it is the oldest music ensemble on Duke’s campus. In addition to these weekly performances, the choir also puts on popular end-of-semester concerts, plays a pivotal role in holiday services, and goes on yearly tours around the world.

Every year at college, I’ve had the privilege of meeting dozens of wonderful people. I’ve also had the misfortune of saying goodbye to at least as many. This year in particular, I’ve found myself saying goodbye to people who have helped define my time at Duke. Some of them led clubs I’ve belonged to since day one and have helped me grow as a writer, student and person. Others I met much more recently but have defined my year or semester.

From Mar. 27 to Mar. 30, Duke Players — a club affiliated with the Department of Theater Studies — put on Dance Nation in Brody Theater. The play was a powerful examination of the trials and tribulations of young adulthood and the equally divisive and supportive nature of competition. Dance Nation follows a group of dancers — the play even includes several dances choreographed by Trinity junior Caroline Edmonson (who did double duty as director) — in their early teens.

The Chronicle (TC): Tell me a little bit about Devils En Pointe. What's the story behind the club? What do you do and how does Devils En Pointe you fit in the context of other campus ballet offerings?
