IntroductionOver the last few decades, the global prevalence of obesity has progressively risen, coinciding with changes in dietary and lifestyle patterns.1 According to data from the World Health Organization, in 1975, only 2.8% of the global population were considered obese, whereas by 2016, this figure had risen to 13% of adults, or ∼650 million people globally.2 Obesity negatively affects physiological functions and poses a significant threat to public health.
