    “I have the elbows of an elephant!” I called out from the bathroom, not for the first time. The usual fixes—exfoliating, moisturizing, painting the worst patches with prescription steroids, slugging with Aquaphor—weren’t working. My skin remained stubbornly, painfully chapped.
