HUNTSVILLE — It was a scene out of a movie: A car was wrapped in flames and there was a person inside. That’s what Huntsville Police Investigator Scott Northcutt saw Feb. 18 when he came upon a serious crash at Pulaski Pike and Mallory Avenue in north Huntsville. As he approached, Northcutt realized it was a Huntsville police car in flames and an officer was trapped inside.

FLORENCE — The University of North Alabama received a top Atlantic Sun Conference award for the first time, winning the Jesse C. Fletcher Trophy. The Jesse C. Fletcher Trophy is the ASUN’s men’s all-sports trophy, presented each season to the athletic department that achieves the highest point percentage across the men’s sports it sponsors. The award was presented at the conference awards meeting in Jacksonville, Fla.

HUNTSVILLE – The annual Juneteenth Festival presented by the city’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and Amazon is happening Saturday from 5-9 p.m. in Big Spring Park. Originally scheduled for June 14, the celebration was postponed due to wet weather, but the excitement is still on. The free, family-friendly event will feature live music, food trucks, fireworks and engaging STEAM activities for all ages.
