A few days ago, Laval Virtual 2025 took place in Laval, France. This must a must-see event for professionals working with VR/XR technlogy. The event brings together exhibitors from around the world: hardware, services, experiences, research projects, industry, entertainment, and training. It’s an excellent way to check in on the latest trends in the field. 5,000 industry professionals, 160 exhibitors, and about 80 speakers were in attendance. As always, 3DVF was on-site.

Meta continue à pousser Meta Horizon Worlds, son fameux metaverse, et souhaite inciter les développeurs à se tourner vers sa plateforme. Le géant du web a annoncé en février le lancement d’un fonds de 50 millions de dollars pour les créateurs et créatrices, puis le lancement d’un éditeur desktop pour créer des expériences immersives compatibles avec la VR, les plateformes mobiles et sur desktop.

Meta continues to push Meta Horizon Worlds, its well-known metaverse platform, and wants to encourage developers to embrace it. Back in February, the tech giant announced the launch of a $50 million fund to support creators, followed by the release of a desktop editor to build immersive experiences compatible with VR, mobile platforms, and desktop. Meta is now rolling out new generative AI tools within this editor, in addition to existing AI features.

Lorsque nous avons assisté au jury animation 3D 2023 de l’école Piktura (qui s’appelait encore Pôle 3D à l’époque), un film a généré beaucoup de débats : Ideal. Certains membres du jury, dont nous, étaient fascinés par l’étrange beauté du court, là où d’autres étaient rebutés par l’animation 3D volontairement « cassée », brisée et déroutante, ne sachant trop quoi penser du projet. L’équipe du studio d’effets visuels français Irrational dévoile un VFX breakdown de son travail sur Bref 2, la seconde saison de la série Bref. Outre des plans très typés science-fiction (avec créatures, portail ou encore vaisseau), l’équipe a aussi planché sur les effets de la fameuse séquence « Il avait besoin de s’asseoir 30 secondes, il s’est assis 20 ans » qui voit un personnage de la série prendre des années en l’espace de quelques secondes.
Nouvel Studio Motion Capture à Strasbourg : Ex Persona

Il y a quelques jours, un nouveau studio de motion capture a ouvert ses portes à Strasbourg : Ex Persona. Basé à 10 minutes du centre (et donc de la gare) de façon à faciliter l’accès du plateau pour les talents, Ex Persona dispose d’un plateau de motion capture équipé en caméras Vicon (acquis et installé via notre partenaire Progiss, distributeur Vicon officiel en France). Ex Persona propose des services variés : capture, cleanup/retargeting, édition des mouvements, si nécessaires, conseil.

When we attended the 2023 3D animation graduation jury at Piktura (then still known as Pôle 3D), one film sparked much debate: Ideal. Some members of the jury, ourselves included, were captivated by the short’s strange beauty, while others were put off by its deliberately “broken,” fragmented, and unsettling 3D animation, unsure of what to make of the project. The short film is now available online.
Irrational Studio shares a VFX breakdown for Bref 2

French post-production and visual effects studio Irrational has unveiled a VFX breakdown showcasing their work on Bref 2, the second season of the series Bref. In addition to distinctly sci-fi-inspired shots (featuring creatures, a portal, and a spaceship), the team also tackled the effects for the famous sequence “He needed to sit down for 30 seconds, he sat down for 20 years,” which generated lots of memes in France, and in which a character visibly ages in just a few seconds.
New Motion Capture Studio in Strasbourg, France: Ex Persona

A few days ago, a new motion capture studio opened its doors in Strasbourg, in the East of France: Ex Persona. Located just 10 minutes from the city center (and thus from the train station) to make access easier for talents, Ex Persona features a motion capture stage equipped with Vicon cameras (acquired and installed through our sister company Progiss, the official Vicon distributor in France).
