Tony Awards are coming up and this year is more competitive than ever. So it’s no surprise that some really terrific shows didn’t get as many nominations that they would have in a less competitive year. The long-awaited Smash, based upon the TV series with a cult following, finally made it to the Great White Way and ended with two deserved Tony nominations – Best Featured Actor (Brooks Ashmanskas) and Best Choreography (Joshua Bergasse).

There’s a flurry of gay RomComs at theatres or streaming and some of them involve furry and bear men. But whether a bear, a twink or a daddy, all of these movies have people looking for love. I think this trend in gay love stories started two years ago when Bros was released by a major studio. While it didn’t find the crossover appeal they hoped, it did open the door. Perhaps Bros sexually frank – but not explicit – scenes turned off the straight boyfriends of its female audience.

This is truly the sentiment and feeling behind Justice 4 Heklina: Two Angry Drag Shows to be held in San Francisco at the Stud and then the Oasis on March 31 with protests simultaneously planned in London. This isn’t just an evening of drag – it’s a movement and a march. The evening starts at the Stud, then there’s a march with signage to the Oasis.
