Hampshire Trust Bank (HTB) has announced that Jamie Jolly has decided to step down and pursue new opportunities having led HTB’s bridging finance proposition since May 2022. Alex Upton, managing director of specialist mortgages, will assume full responsibility for bridging. She previously led the development finance team before becoming managing director of specialist mortgages and will now extend her leadership to the bridging division.

There is an impending “life insurance equality gap”, as non-salaried workers, including freelancers, self-employed people and those on zero-hours contracts or hourly pay, are significantly less likely to have cover than those with salaried jobs (33% vs. 50%), according to research from Beagle Street. The insurance provider, which is part of the OneFamily Group, surveyed 2,000 people between the ages of 18 and 50 and asked about their working patterns and attitudes towards insurance.

Gatehouse Bank has reintroduced top slicing for UK expats and international residents purchasing a buy-to-let property. Top slicing, also known as income top-up, can be used in cases where the rent paid by the tenant does not exceed the monthly payment charged by the bank by the required amount. Subsequently, the applicant’s personal income may be used to ‘top-up’ the shortfall. Gatehouse Bank reintroduced top slicing for UK residents in June of this year.
