Adviser numbers are soaring, demand for advice has never been higher and, with more than £7trn estimated to transfer between generations by the end of the decade, the future looks bright. Yet despite this, there is an ongoing trend that concerns me. While we have become better at attracting fresh talent to the industry, the number of firms providing retail investment advice is shrinking fast.

A Coventry Lloyds Bank branch is among 136 across the country set to close. The banking giant has announced it is closing 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland branches. The closures will start in May and are set to continue into next year. Of the 136 set to close one is in Coventry. The Lloyds Bank branch at 531 Foleshill Road is set to close on November 4 this year. Several others in the wider Midlands area are also to close but none in Warwickshire feature in the most current list.

MetLife UK has paid out more than 27,000 accident and health claims to its individual protection customers in 2024. The claims amounted to £27,058,980.32 and data shows an average of 108 accident and illness payments were paid every day. The claims analysis also shows that more than 15,000 hospitalisation claims were paid, as well as 9,664 broken bone claims. The insurer also approved 702 lifestyle claims, and 711 funeral benefit claims from non-accidental death.
